This year, we have already faced many challenges and spent way more time at home than we ever have before. You need to remember to take time for yourself. I know you are reading about that from many places, but it is worth repeating. Remember investing in your home is a great way to get a quick return on an investment! Not only does it give you hope and beauty you can enjoy in the moment, but helps with the resale value of your home if you choose to sell!
Now, you may be looking around your house and noticing that you need a change. That is perfectly normal, especially when you are confined for long periods of time in the same space! If you choose to not use a designer, remember:
Identify the areas you want to improve and what are your improving in those areas. For example, you may want to update your kitchen. Make a list of what in your kitchen you want updated – paint or replace kitchen cabinets, update cabinet hardware, replace flooring, change your sink, install backsplash, etc. This gives you an idea of how big of a job and you will have a better idea of how much it will cost.
Get some estimates. You may want to make some of these updates yourself to save on expenses. However, a lot of times you may be able to have a pro do it for the same amount or even less depending on the task. Professionals will receive discounts on materials that you won’t be able to get. While this is unlikely, you will at least have the information to know why you decided to DIY.
Create a realistic timeline. There will be some things you need to do at the same time – replace the sink at the same time as replacing countertops.
